Dr. Fernando Buitrago is member of the Scientific Organizing Committee of the confeence “COSMIC NUGGETS – A FEAST OF COMPACT AND MASSIVE GALAXIES ACROSS THE UNIVERSE”, in Sesto (Italy) during 10-14th January 2022.
This workshop will have the main purpose of reviewing the state-of-the-art of observations and simulations about the most dense, massive and compact galaxies across the Universe: from the high-z dense, star-forming galaxies to the local ultra-compact massive galaxies, an entire feast of cosmic nuggets. These objects pose a great challenge for the current paradigm on galaxy formation and evolution, and can be of precious help in understanding the mass assembly of large, massive local early-type galaxies, which account for more than half of the total stellar mass of the whole Universe and are responsible for its chemical enrichment. Therefore, this workshop aims at tracing the time evolution of these peculiar and rare objects in order to better understand their role in galaxy evolution.
After more than a year of this terrible pandemic that has done us so much damage, and in particular has prevented us from attending international scientific meetings in person, we decided to take the initiative and organize this event: “8th International Workshop on New Challenges in Quantum Mechanics: Integrability, Supersymmetry and Quantum Technologies”, was held in Valladolid (Spain), on June 24, 2021.

“VI Cosmology and the Quantum Vacuum”, 5th-8th March 2020, Barcelona (Spain). The focus of this workshop will be on different aspects of modern theoretical cosmology, the challenges of the theory being consistent with experimental data, and the unavoidable connection of cosmological models with the quantum nature of the vacuum. A basic question in modern cosmology is: why we do not see vacuum fluctuations at cosmological scale? In addition, should the singularities of cosmological theories be treated as necessary ingredients of the classical theory or should them be considered as indicators of an underlying quantum theory, yet to be discovered? We aim to bring along to this workshop all the leading scientists working on those problems and discuss state of the art results on the above, strongly interdependent, areas of fundamental physics.
